Kiril Tochkov, MA 02, PhD 05

As a undergraduate student at a European university, Kiril Tochkov MA ’02, PhD ’05 says he never felt connected to that institution. That changed as soon as he arrived at Binghamton University to begin graduate school. “Here, everyone knew each other and everyone was always ready to help,” says Tochkov, a native of Bulgaria. “That gave me a lot of opportunities to develop.”
Develop he certainly did, garnering Binghamton Fund-supported awards for academic achievement and excellence in teaching. Graduate student travel grants supported by the Binghamton Fund enabled Tochkov to present his research on the revolutionary economic changes sweeping China at several prestigious academic conferences, including one where he was offered a job. Tochkov is now an assistant professor of economics at Texas Christian University. “I am very happy and thankful for the support I received from Binghamton University,” he says.
