To ensure that the Decker School of Nursing continues to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex health care system, the school will need an endowed chair in gerontological nursing to attract and retain the best available faculty.
The Decker School of Nursing also hopes to establish endowments to support the activities of the United Health Services Center for Nursing Practice and the O’Connor Office of Rural Health Studies, where faculty can offer primary health care, health education and counseling to individuals and families and provide hands-on experiences for students.
Endowments dedicated to an academic nursing center and a doctoral student resource center would provide the resources that faculty and graduate students need for research and scholarly study of emerging health issues. DSON also seeks to update the clinical practice laboratory with simulators, models and other computer-assisted technologies, along with the latest computer-aided instruction, films, software and reference materials.
Additional support is needed to provide scholarships and fellowships for need- and merit-based financial assistance in order to attract nursing students at all levels of preparation.
