Endowments

Student scholarships and fellowships, faculty and academic programs need continued support to maintain the margin of excellence that distinguishes Binghamton as one of the nation's top-ranked public universities. Creating an endowment preserves capital, overcomes inflation, and provides long term, reliable income to the University. A gift designated as an endowment is invested by the Foundation, and a portion of the earnings is then used to fund the scholarship or program for which it is designated. An endowment continues to grow over time, supporting the scholarship or program for as long as the University exists.

Support for scholarships, study abroad, laboratory and multimedia equipment and athletic grants-in-aid help to open the doors of discovery for thousands of deserving students.

Endowed gifts to Binghamton University really do make a difference. Here are some examples of how a variety of gifts can have a positive impact on the lives of faculty and students:

  • $10,000 funds an international travel grant for a deserving student.

  • $25,000 purchases a van for Decker School of Nursing students to travel between campus and clinical practice sites.

  • $30,000 funds an undergraduate scholarship or athletic grant-in-aid.

  • $100,000 supports an endowed Critical Initiatives Fund for academic programs.

  • $250,000 supports a distinguished graduate student fellowship.

  • $500,000 endows a director’s fund to support major units such as the Libraries, Art Museum, Athletics and the Anderson Center for the Arts.

  • $500,000 provides full financial aid through four years of study for a Binghamton Scholar, the University’s most prestigious scholarship program.

  • $1 million endows an academic nursing center at the Decker School of Nursing to prepare professional nurses for roles in education.
